About Gottfried Frederik Zeelie, b7

Death Notice KAB MOOC 6/9/37 8053 (1845)

By Petrus Zeelie:

Godfried Zeelie is the 7th child of the ancestral parents of the Zeelie family in South Africa and was born on 12 Apr of Jun 1769 in Swellendam. He died on 17 Aug 1845 when he was 76 years old.

He married Geertruy on 6 Jun 1785 when he was 16 and she was a mere 13 years old.

At the age of 16 when he got married, Godfried Zeelie already had a “voorkind” named Magdalena Johanna, of which the mother and her date of birth is unknown.

Their 12th child is further discussed herein due to his involvement in the woodcutter housing position. (c12b7c12 Hendrik Jacobus * 27.11.1810 Swellendam 9.12.1811 x George 17.3.1833 Magdalena Johanna VAN WYNGAARD xx Sara Johanna Magdalena VAN WYNGAARD)

Their 14th child was the great-great grandfather of Zeelie (c12b7c12 Hendrik Jacobus * 27.11.1810 Swellendam 9.12.1811 x George 17.3.1833 Magdalena Johanna VAN WYNGAARD xx Sara Johanna Magdalena VAN WYNGAARD)

From the above it is evident that the family moved from Swellendam to George between 1811 (Hendrik Jacobus C12 was born in Swellendam) and 1813 (Ernst Jacobus was born in George).

Geertruy was also called Anna Maria Geertruida Kortze, after she remarried.
