About Governor of Kaua'i Paul Puhiulu Kalakua Kanoa
Internet provides a sketch of what this man looked like. Lptm

Adoptions were the western "way" of adding a keiki to one's family. Adoptions were regarded as "hanai" by the kanaka maoli. Hanai was forever and dynastic, no matter how much westerners tried to demean its practice.
Another tidbit to support whispers as to why what happened on Kaua'i with the Kanoas, alienated in worth with some kanaka maoli...is still whispered,... to some... who might "...need to know."
But not with me. Family is family forever. I do not allow my kanaka heart to become alienated from other kanaka. Lptm

Notice the western tone. Even more evidence of possible alienation between Kaua'i kanaka and other island kanaka. If we understand, we can pray for all concerned and ask God for mercy for all. Lptm
Is another reason, some say...many kanaka on Kaua'i finally settled on other islands. True? Research continues.../ /

"From his childhood, he was associated wth the Ali'i."
When his own true, biological father died, he was adopted by P. Kanoa.
Raised by Mrs. Kakuanaoa and then Kamamalu. Overseen, hired and advanced by Kamamalu and Kalakaua, David.
Notice again the flavor and tone of this reporting. Another clue as to the alienation of Kaua'i for some on other islands. The only way reconciliation was possible was when the foreigner was pushed out of ohana relations and the Hawaiians could love and forgive and malama each other again as in olden times, without the vibes of the foreigners.
True aloha, the spirit of love and forgiveness and mercy....is possible only with the Hawaiian Ohana way...many believe. Lptm

Served government as Minister of Finance under Kalakaua. Also served in the Privy Council. After a business trip to O'ahu, returned to Kauai and "...was stricken with paralysis, never regaining his natural health and vigor, but grew old and weak rapidly."
Spoken of as a benefactor. Kind and spoke of hope to others. Lptm
Buried at Kawaaiaha'o Church cemetery.
"Ex-Govefrnor Paul Kanoa Found Dead in His Bed."
See what I mean? The tone, the emphasis, the phrasing. Sigh.....Lptm

"The hill above Nawiliwili was called Ke Kuhiau, which translates as "high point," and it was one of three heiau located near Kalapaki Bay. The residence of Governor Paul Kanoa stood there before annexation, and later it became the courthouse and county offices. When new county buildings were built on Rice Street, Kauai High School was established on top of the hill."
This paragraph speaks volumes to the kanaka who heard the whispers about Kaua'i.

A valuable topic for discussion between cousins: How does the Kanoa story, the John Akana story, the Miller-Mela Tilton stories inform us on:
Why our kupuna of the 20th and our cousins, siblings of the 21st do not seem overfly eager to become integral players, necessarily....of today's Royal Societies' program of events, rituals, processions, regalia and goals?
