Grace Walker was born about 1597 at Filby, Norfolk, England. She married 7 Jul 1623, Richard Carver, at Norwich, St Stephen, Norfolk, England.[1]

From the combined passenger list of two ships which sailed from Yarmouth in Norfolk in 1637 (John C. Hotten, The Original Lists of Persons of Quality ... [1874; repr. ed., Baltimore, 1986] the following family was examined on 11 Apr 1637: “Richard Carvear of Skratby in the County of Norf[olk] husbandman ageed 60 yeares, and Grace his wife, ageed 40 years, with 2 children. Elizabeth ageed 18 yeares and Susanna aged 18 years, being twynes." Also three servants: Isaac Hart aged 22, Thomas Flegg 21, and Marabel Underwood 20.

Grace first married Richard Carver, as his third wife, and second Michael Barstow as his third wife.[2] Michael Barstow mentioned his step-daughters Elizabeth Randall and Susan Perry in his will dated June 23, 1674, proved 20 June 1676.[3]

Grace died in Watertown, MA on 21 Jul 1671.24.


Will of Richard Carver

The will of Richard Carver of Watertown, yeoman, testified before Gov. Winthrop 9 Sep 1641 mentions wife Grace and daughters Elizabeth and Susanna.30.

1638, December 18: Richard Carver of Watertown, yeoman, made his will, making bequests of £30-00-00 each to his daughters Elizabeth Carver and Susanna Carver, and the residue to his wife Grace.

Will of Richard Carver In the name of God Amen. the eighteenth day of December, in the yeare of our Lord God, 1638.

  • I, Richard Carver of Watertown, in New England, yeoman, being sick, but of perfect memory. *Item. To Elizabeth Carver, my daughter, £30-00-00, in money or goods.
  • Item. To Susanna Carver, my daughter, the value of £30-00-00 in money or goods.
  • all the residue of all my goods and houseing, with my lott lands, chattles, Cattell, money and debts whatsoever, unto Grace, my well beloved wife, she to pay the legacies and to keep my daughter Susanna until she be disposed of.

Will of Michael Barstow

His will, dated June 23, 1674, was proved 20 June 1676. Bequest were made to:

  • Mr. John Shearman, my dear pastor of the church in Watertown: his farm.
  • Hannah Barstow, alias Prince: one great Bible and "the debt due to me in my book which her first husband William Barstow was indebted to me:[25] [sister in law]
  • Church of Christ in Watertown: £16
  • Elizabeth Randall, the wife of William Randall of Scittuate in Plimouth Colony:£5 [3rd wife Grace’s step daughter]
  • Susan Perry, wife of William Perry in Marshfield £5 [3rd wife Grace’s step daughter]
  • Michael Barstow (son of John deceased) lot of Upland and Meadow in Watertown and a lot in Barehill in Watertowne [nephew]
  • John & Jeremiah, children of the aforesaid John Barstow deceased: £15 each. [nephews]
  • Deacon Thomas Hastings of Watertown: £10
  • Deacon Henry Bright of Watertown: 40s
  • the residue equally divided into ten parts or shares:
  • children of brother George Barstow deceased: two shares - to each child a single share
  • children of brother William Barstow deceased: eight shares - to each child a single share
