This is the real Grace Robins
This is the Fictional version of the historical Grace Neale Waters Robins of Northamptonshire England and Northampton County, Virginia.
The legend has it that she was an Irish noblewoman fleeing a repulsive forced marriage, and over time a whole fictional genealogy evolved that tied her into the O'Neills of Clannaboyne (or, sometimes, the O'Neills of Tyrone themselves).
The legend inspired a novel, "To Have and To Hold" (1899) by American author Mary Johnston. The book has been twice adapted to the screen. The first version was a silent film released in 1916 by Jesse L. Lasky’s Famous Players-Lasky company, was directed by George Melford and starred Wallace Reid and Mae Murray. The second version was released in 1922, also by Lasky, and starring Bert Lytell and Betty Compson.
But about the only truth in it is that her name was Grace, she did emigrate to Virginia, and she found enough adventure there for at least one lifetime (her first husband, Lt. Edward Waters, had enough for two or three).
