About Grace Helen Sennett
Grace was the first child of Mary and James Brook to be born in Montana. She had red hair. Helen Carriger, her granddaughter, told a story about Grace when she was young. The family lived near Waterloo in Madison County on a homestead near the mountains. They used to bake bread once a week. The smell of the bread baking would attract the Indians that lived nearby and they would show up at the homestaed for gifts of homemade bread. As the Indians would walk by the young Grace, they would always rub her head. It was believed that they thought that by rubbing her red hairit would protect them fromevil spirits.
Grace met her husband at Pipestone pass. He would go the to swim in the hot springs that were there at the time. He apparently was an excellent swimmer.
