About Gregory Ballard
https://sas-space.sas.ac.uk/5776/1/Janet_Clayton_-_Thomas_Walsingha...
"Gregory Ballard’s will, made on 4 October 1415 and proved in 1417, indicates that he was
named for his mother’s family, the Gregorys, who held the manor of Beaconsfield. 56"
-------------------------------
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ballard-304 lists Gregory's parents as Thomas Ballard MP and Alice (Gregory) Ballard. We know from the documentation at the link above and excerpts from the site listed under his Media tab here on his profie that Gregory's mother was, indeed, a Gregory by birth.
Gregory is listed as being present at Agincourt but in fact a writ for his Inquisition Post Mortem was issued to the Escheators of Kent, Middlesex & Buckingham on 18th October & his will was dated 4th October 1415 from which we can surmise that he was on eof the many hundreds that succumbed to dysentry during or immediately after the seige of Hafleur. (France)
-------------------------------
Regarding Gregory's wife, she is seen listed in documentation as Katherine with no mention of her maiden name, but Wiki has this info:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rous-44
For many years it was thought that Gregory had married his first cousin Katherine Gregory but evidence in a quitclaim dated 20 June 1417 held at Bedfordshire Archives (FN762) relating to the manors of Horton and Sapyndon with appurtenances in Chartham and Petham shows it to have been "Katherine Rous daughter of Simon Rous, citizen and fishmonger of London, and widow of Gregory Ballard, esquire".
Two further items (FN 764 & FN 768) also show that Katherine subsequently remarried to John Burgh esquire of Waleton, Yorkshire. They are receipts for £12: John Burgh, esquire, of Waleton and wife Katherine from Thomas Ballard, esquire, son and heir of Gregory Ballard, deceased. For 6 months rent due to Roger Honyngton, esquire, Richard Tyrell, esquire, John de Corve, John Carpenter junior, Richard Osborn, John Walton, Robert Burton and Richard Claidich. For the manor of Spitelcombe, with 2 water mills and other appurtenances in Deptford, and other lands in Estcombe, Westcombe, Greenwich, Writhelmarssh, Charleton, in Kent; being Katherine's dower, of lands formerly belonging to her late husband Gregory Ballard in Kent, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
When do not know when Katherine died but it seems likely to have been soon after 1435 as she was by then at least 60.
