Gregory Raby Roberts

Following the death of his mother, he was taken to Cornwall at the age of 2 years and three months old by his father, where he and his siblings were to be cared for by their maternal grandmother who lived at Truro. Encouraged by his older brother "Meme" (William), who worked for the Lota Coal Company, the youth returned to Chile in 1876, where he also obtained a good position in the Company. His father had died in 1871. In the book published by Carlos Astorquiza "100 years of the Mining Company of Lota 1852 - 1952", Raby's photograph appears; he was noted as the engineer of the establishment from 1902 to his death in 1917 (this in an error, for Raby passed away in 1914 aged 61).
