Margaret Grietje Wyckoff was born on 30 Mar 1684 in Gravesend, Kings, New York, United States, which is right at Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of Marten Claesen Wyckoff (1663-1707) and Hannah Willemse Wychoff (1656-1724).

Family Home: Margaret's family were among the first Duch settlers of New York. Their family home, occupied by Wychoff descendants for more then 250 years is the number 1 landmark in New York City, now Brooklyn Heights. The oldest house in New York, built in 1638. Information obtained from the volume "History and Genealogy of the Poling Family" by Clarissa H. Tatterson - Published by McClain Printing Co., Parsons, WV 1978.

Margaret married Samuel Poling (1680-1732) at Gravesend, Kings, New York, United States in 1702. She was 18 years old. Samuel was the son of John Poling Poland (1620-1700) and Mary Fry Poland (1622-1707).

Samuel and Margaret Poling had the following 9 known children: John Poling 1706 – 1770, Martin Poling 1708 – 1770, William Poling 1710 – 1759, Elizabeth Poling 1718 – 1732, Sarah Poling 1723- , Margaret Poling 1724-1732, Samuel Poling 1725 – 1780, Petrus Poling and Mary Poling.

Both Margaret and Samuel are mentioned in the Lineages of Members of the National Society of Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, Vol. III on page 793.

The Wyckoffs are also mentioned in this book: "The Washington ancestry : and records of the McClain, Johnson, and forty other colonial American families" talking about how 16 Wyckoff families left New York and moved into New Jersey and purchased over 1,200 acres of land in Somerset County, NJ.

Pieter Claesen Wyckoff (January 25, 1625 – June 30, 1694) was a prominent figure in Dutch and later English colonial Kings County, New York. All persons surnamed Wyckoff in North America, including many variations in spelling, can be traced to his family. Pieter is the grandfather of Margaret. He built part of the oldest house in New York City (Right in the middle of Brooklyn, NY.). The Wyckoff House, or Pieter Claesen Wyckoff House is located at 5816 Clarendon Road in the Canarsie area of Brooklyn. The house is estimated to have been built in 1652, it is the oldest surviving example of a Dutch saltbox frame house in America, and was one of the first structures built by Europeans on Long Island.
