About Gunther Hans Schiff
August 19, 1927 - October 14, 2016 Gunther Schiff, a prominent entertainment attorney in southern California for many years, has died of natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills, California. Born in Cologne, Germany, Schiff was the son of physicians Hans Schiff and Alice Goldstein Schiff. In 1936, the family fled the National Socialist regime to Los Angeles. Schiff graduated from Hollywood High School and served in the United States Navy (1945-6). He attended Georgetown University, receiving a bachelor's degree from the Foreign Service School in 1949 and a law degree in 1952. Schiff served on the staff of John W. McCormack, then majority leader of the House of Representatives, before moving back to Los Angeles to establish a law practice. He specialized in entertainment law, and became a partner in several law firms. He is noted for representing producers in collective bargaining with the Writers Guild and the Screen Actors Guild, for countless contract negotiations on behalf of individual artists and other clients, many notable, and for his arbitration work for the Superior Court and the Court of Appeals. Schiff is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jo Ann Rosengrant Schiff, his children Eric (Nancy Mudrick), Mary Alice Susca (Michael), Jage (Liz Ann), and Hans Judson (Sara), nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was known by his many friends as an enthusiastic sailor, skier, motorcyclist, and supporter of the Young Musicians Foundation. The family invites donations to the Foundation (www.ymf.org) to honor Gunther's life.
