About Gunther von Wüllersleben

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunther_von_W%C3%BCllersleben

Gunther von Wüllersleben (* unknown; † May 3 or 4, 1252 ) was the 8th Grand Master of the Teutonic Order from 1249 to 1252 .

life

Wüllersleben came from a ministerial family of the Hersfeld monastery , which came from Wüllersleben in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ). The date of his entry into the order is not known, but he lived in Acre as a simple knight until 1215 . It is possible that he is the Marshal of the Order of Palestine of the same name, who we meet there from 1228 to 1230.

Certainly he is attested again as a brother in Thuringia in 1234 , from where he could then have become land commander in Apulia if he is identical to the office holder of the same name from 1240 to 1244. In any case, we find him accompanied by the Grand Master in Prussia in 1246 , specifically in Thorn and Elbing .

Günther von Wüllersleben was elected Grand Master in Acre in 1249 or 1250. Ludwig von Queden , the defeated opponent of the pro-papal party led by Dietrich von Grüningen , was sent to Prussia as Landmeister .

Nothing is known about the tenure of Günther von Wüllersleben, he probably resided in Akkon until his death. During his tenure, the sixth crusade took place, in which a large contingent of Teutonic Knights took part. However, Wüllersleben is not mentioned in this context. He died on May 3 or 4, 1252.
