Also from a church publication:
19 February, 1969: Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma writes in support of the Publication
of the Mar Thoma Church Directory. For many of our leaders the publication of a
Directory was “an impossible and unwanted” task. Some even claimed that it will
invite God’s curse like that of King David’s time when he counted his people (2
Samuel Ch.24). But Metropolitan Juhanon Mar Thoma strongly supported the
idea and the first Mar Thoma Church Directory was published in 1969.
7 January, 1965: Daniel Case - Final Judgement from Supreme Court. The case
O.S. No. 116 of 1955 filed in the District Court of Kottayam on 29 July 1955 by
(Plaintiffs) ‘Mr. Nina Daniel and others’ of Kurrumthottickal against (Defendants) ‘Most Rev. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan and others’ are known as Daniel Case. The main prayer of the Plaintiffs was to restrict Juhanon Mar Thoma from holding the post of
Metropolitan on the claims he rejected the faith of the Mar Thoma Church. After
10 years of litigation, judgement was given in favour of the Defendant Juhanon
Mar Thoma by the Supreme Court of India.
7 March 1990: Very Rev. P. J. Thomas passes away. Rev. Thomas was a deep
scholar and gifted linguist, besides being an ardent evangelist. He passed his B.
D. degree examination from United Theological College, Bangalore with
distinction and joined the ministry of the Church. The call came to him to take up
the mission work in Ankola when he was Vicar of the Kottayam Jerusalem Mar
Thoma Parish. He readily accepted the challenge and went to Ankola with his
family and established the Ashram there with two young graduates as fellow
workers, Mr. Philip Oommen (now Philipose Mar Chrysostom Metropolitan) and
Mr. John Thomas (late Rev. P. John Thomas). Rev. P. J. Thomas was
designated Vicar General in 1976 after he came back to Kerala. He passed away
on March 7, 1990.
7 August, 1893: Birth of Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan. Dr Juhanon Mar
Thoma was the metropolitan of our Church from 1947 to 1976. He provided the
Church with the emblem having the motto: “Lighted to Lighten”. This has been
appreciated by many leaders of Christian churches.
5 December, 1974: Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma lays foundation for the Callaway
Memorial Library. Miss. Callaway, a Church Missionary Society Missionary from
Australia, was the first principal of the Vanithamandiram (Tiruvalla) of our Sevika
Sanghom. She served the Sevika Sanghom and Vanithamandiram from 1925 to
1946, and after that she returned to her native place in Australia.
