About Hamilton Henry Kearnes
Son of Mathew Kearns and Mahala Miller. Farmer, blacksmith, wheelwright, millwright. Married (1st wife) Charlotte White (b: May 16, 1823, New York) April 1, 1839 in Shelby County, Ohio. Resided for a time in Iowa, where his father was a trapper. Emigrated to Utah in 1850 and settled at Springville, Utah County. Helped build the iron works at Cedar City, Utah. Returned to Springville in 1857, where he served as captain of the police. In 1860 moved to Gunnison, Sanpete County, Utah, where he was appointed bishop.
