Additional Biographical Information:

By The Herald journalist Cerise du Plooy
2013~09-26 "'My brother was killed like a dog," said Jannie, the angry brother of Hannes de Wet, who was murdered this weekend on his farm near Fochville, Vereeniging. "'My brother helped me out on my farm. He rode around a lot, he mixed seeds, he serviced the harvester and did many important tasks to keep the farm operating·.Early Saturday morning Hannes de Wet was found stabbed to death in his homestead, said Jannie "On Saturday 7am I got an urgent sms from one of the farmers saying there was big trouble on the farm."He told me the shed door was open, the bakkie was missing and Hannes was dead on the floor at the entrance of his house. The Westonaria SAPS claims they can't confirm this but the brother insists that this was a revenge murder."I had chased away one of the workers for stealing money from me. Nearly R3,000 was stolen from my bakkie and I was angry. The man had admitted that he had stolen the money. So I chased him away and told him to never come back..'" Jannie de Wet is convinced that the same man was involved in the murder of his brother. "The other workers are heart-sore about Hannes's murder," said Jannie. "He was the kind of guy who would drive to Fochville from the farm to pick up workers who didn't have transport and bring them back to the farm".his brother had a nickname amongst the workers: they called him Thabo-Boss·. The Herald newspaper who interviewed him, said Jannie became emotional and said: "1 am sitting here looking at the diesel.pump. On Saturday night they stole R193's worth of diesel, pouring it into cans and taking this away in the bakkie". "'Proof enough that the people who murdered Hannes knew exactly how things worked on the farm. He said Tracker managed to have the bakkie located within 90 minutes after he alerted them about his brother's murder and the theft of the bakkie. Tracker found the bakkie with four suspects in Khutsong township. It was reported elsewhere that their clothes were still stained with Hannes de Wet"s blood. The Westonaria police doesn't seem to know much: constable Thembi Masango also was unable to confirm the arrest wrote The Herald.

Neighbouring farmer Theuns Pretorius said he was thoroughly shocked by the murder as Hannes was still on his farm friday night and left early Saturday morning. Neighbour Nicci Simpson said she was not satisfied with the SAPS" handling of the investigation. However Jannie said he felt that the police did a good job. Simpson said whether one phones the SAPS in Fochville, in Westonaria or Orange farm while you're under attack, they almost never show up. But they all show up en masse after somebody has already been murdered.
