Partly to help his father with his churchwork and partly to help teach his two younger brothers he now stayed home for 2 years afterwhich he went to work for Bishop Harboe in Trondheim in 1748. Harbo was later bishop of Sjaelland, Denmark and Hans traveled to Denmark with him in 1749. In 1752 he got the exam ???? here. As a descendent of L. Balchenborg he had a scholarship from "Brochmann's Foundation" 1750. In 1752 Bishop Herslele asked him to accompany his son P.J. Herslele to the continent. The two of them visited the universities at Halle and Jena and Leipzig. He returned in 1754, was named pastor at Yttero 13 June 1755, and dean of Innherreds deanery (over several parishes)1766. In 1756 he rebuilt at his own cost the buildings at priests farm in Yttero. He died in a fit of anger after 4 days illness in 1771. The tradition explains that he had a neighbor that wanted some of his land syaing it was his and threatening Hans with a lawsuit. Hans was a peaceful man but told the neighbor that if he did he would lose. One day he was riding by the neighbors house and he came out and bid the priiest a drink. Hans thought he wanted to make up and stopped and drank. Soon after he felt sick, this became terrible pain and thus he died. There is a portrait of him that now still hangs in Yttero church 1885.
