Harav Berel Dov Weintraub

R' Berel zt"l was born to his father Hagaon R' Shmuel Weintraub zt"l Rosh Yeshiva of Novardok in the town of Pinsk.

As a youngster, he studied at the Lomze Yeshiva in Petach Tikva, where he was close to the Roshei Yeshiva. He was a beloved Talmid and close to Harav Shach zt"l, then serving as a Magid Shiur at the Yeshiva. One Purim he sent with R' Chaim Kanievsky a "shalach manos" to Harav Schach, a page which included a question on each maseches of the Shas.

At the yeshiva, he learned Chavrusa with his friend Harav Chaim Kanievsky, who he was in close contact with until his last day. The relationship between the two is impossible to describe. While he learned at the yeshiva, he also learned chavrusa with Harav Meir Zvi Bergman, with whom he had close contact.

R' Berel lived in the building of the Lederman shull, located near the home of R' Chaim on Rashbam Street. The two used to walk together regularly, for decades, at the time of Ra'va Dera'avin and talk in Torah.

He bore no Torah position, but every morning for decades he would make his way from his home to Kollel Chazon Ish, where he would sit and learn Torah for hours. Young Avrechim would come to him with questions and negotiate in learning.

He was author of the books Dvar Shmu'a on tractates of the Shas and other chiburim.

He published the books of Hagaon R' Gedaliah Nadel – Chidushei R' Gedaliah, on which he labored and toiled hard and gathered from the notebooks of his Talmidim. (Source)

רבי בערל זצ"ל נולד לאביו הגה"צ רבי שמואל וינטרוב זצ"ל ראש ישיבת נובהרדוק בעיירת פינסק.

בבחרותו למד ישיבת לומז'א בפתח-תקווה, שם היה מקורב לרבותיו ראשי הישיבה. היה תלמיד חביב וקרוב להגראמ"מ שך זצ"ל, ששימש אז כר"מ בישיבה. באחד מימי הפורים שלח עם הגר"ח קניבסקי לרב שך 'משלוח מנות' דף שכלל שאלה על כל מסכת בש"ס.

בישיבה למד בחברותא עם רעו הגר"ח קנייבסקי, עמו היה בקשר הדוק עד יומו האחרון. הקשר בין השניים היה קשר בל ניתן לתיאור. בלומדו בישיבה למד בחברותא גם עם הגרמ"צ ברגמן, עמו היה לו קשר הדוק.

רבי בערל זצ"ל התגורר בבניין של בית הכנסת 'לדרמן', הממוקם בסמוך לביתו של הגר"ח ברחוב רשב"ם. השניים נהגו לטייל בקביעות, במשך עשרות שנים, בשעת רעוא דרעוין והתפלפלו בדברי תורה.

הוא לא נשא על עצמו מישרה תורנית, אך כל בוקר במשך עשרות שנים היה עושה את דרכו מביתו לכולל 'חזון איש', שם היה יושב והוגה בתורה שעות רבות. האברכים הצעירים היו משחרים את פניו בשאלות ונושאים ונותנים עמו בלימוד.

חיבר את הספרים 'דבר שמועה' על מסכתות הש"ס ועוד חיבורים.

הוציא לאור את ספריו של הגאון רבי גדליה נדל זצ"ל - 'חידושי ר' גדליה', עליהם עבד וטרח רבות וקיבץ ממחברות תלמידיו. (מקור)
