About Harold Albert Tegner

Ivah and Harold went on a trip to Norway and Sweden in 1979. At that time they lived in San Leandro, California.

HAROLD A. TEGNER passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2007 at his home at Ridgeview Commons in Pleasanton.

Known fondly as "Teg" by his friends, Harold was born December 29, 1920 and grew up in Oakland where he attended Alexander Hamilton Junior High and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939.

A veteran of WWII, he proudly served his country in the Coast Guard and was one of the few remaining survivors of the Port Chicago explosion of July 17, 1944, where his account of that tragedy has been documented by various writers and historians.

Harold married Ivah Eleanor Kwartz in 1954 who preceded him in death in 2000.

Teg's desire was to honor Jesus Christ by his life and he continued to deepen his Christian faith through a lifetime of Bible reading, regular attendance and service in many churches, as well as being a faithful "prayer warrior" for his family, friends and churches. Considered a man of "in'TEG'rity", he was a faithful member of various churches over the past 60 years; Melrose Baptist Church in Oakland, Trinity Baptist Church & Redwood Chapel in Castro Valley, First Baptist Church of Modesto and Valley Community Church in Pleasanton. For nearly 40 years,

Harold worked for Pacific Motor Trucking in Oakland and Fremont, followed by eight years of custodial work in two churches.

He loved to tent camp with his family, play golf, listen to operettas, do wood working, build old model cars, and collect stamps, coins & nautical items.

Harold is survived by his brother, Leroy (Delores) Tegner of Tacoma, Washington; son, Doug (Leisa) Tegner of Castro Valley; daughter, Sylvia (Brian) Guerrero of Pleasanton, and six appreciative grandchildren: Amber (Ben) Warner, Annie, Heidi & Luke Tegner and Ben and Kendra Guerrero.

Two memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 12.. The first will be at 11:00am for the residents of Ridgeview Commons Apartments at 5200 Case Ave. in Pleasanton, followed by a public memorial service at 3:00pm at Redwood Chapel Community Church, located at 19300 Redwood Rd. in Castro Valley. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Harold Tegner to the Cystic Fibrosis Research, Inc., 560 San Antonio Rd., Suite 103, Palo Alto, CA 94306.
