About Harriet Scarlett

SCARLETT Harriet The passenger list of the 'Adamant' sailing from England to Nelson (NZ) arrived 13.8.1874. Lists among the passengers: Daniel Scarlett 40, Harriet Scarlett 40 and children Rose 19, Charles 17, Elizabeth 15, Daniel 14, James 12, Sarah 10, William 7, Harriet 1.

My information (from elderly residents) is conflicting. one source asserts that this was Harriedt(1st wife of Daniel) who died in childbirth - with the babe also buried here. Another states that Mrs Daniel Scarlett believed to be 'Harriet' died at the Promised Land but was buried at South Terrace. Another assert that Mr. Scarlett was married Three times - his first two wives died and the third left him!! It is the view of Jack Dellaca that Harriet (deceased) would have been either the wife or the youngest child (called Harriet) Jack Dellaca was the person who complied the information.

GEDCOM Note

&nbsp
We believe Harriet was born about 1834 in the village of Swerford. The 1851 Census of Swerford lists only one family with the name CATO. The father is James. Harriet's death certificate lists her father as James so we believe this to be the right family.
