About Harrison Halftown
Seneca
Harrison was born on the Allegany Indian Reservation. He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation. His Indian name was Dar-gus-swent-gar-aut "Drop Gun Stock".
He was the former deputy clerk of the Seneca Nation and for nearly his whole life he identified with the public concerns of the Seneca Nation. He had good judgement and experience and slowly but firmly followed the course which made for the prosperity and peace of his people.
Gordon married Mary Lewis (1833-1910) and they had 6 children; Malinda (1867-1916), Hamilton Fish (1868-1921), William H (1872-1893), Winwood (b. 1874), Emily B (b. 1877) and Harrison H Halftown (1884-1884). Harrison died aft. 30 Jun 1901.
His gravestone is a tall marker at the entrance of the cemetery.
