Brief overview:

Harry, a middle aged man and member of the Jewish community in Lyndurst, was shot dead in Morkel Street, while walking to the synagogue, on 24th December 2007.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Mark Stokoe said three men in a Toyota Conquest (Tazz) stopped next to the victim on Morkel Street. One of them pulled out a firearm and shot the man in the arm. The bullet went through his arm and into his abdomen. "It was a fatal shot. The man died on the scene," said Stokoe.

Rabbi Rodal from Chabad Norwood said: “We are shocked, saddened and outraged by the crime levels in this country and how life is worth so little.” It seems that thieves stole his Tallis bag thinking that there were valuables inside.

No one had been arrested and the motive was unknown, said Captain Lindiwe Mbatha.
