About Harry Geller

Harry Geller, 88 years old, of Overland Park, KS, died on Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home. He was born on March 14, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA, and lived his entire life in the Kansas City, MO area. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Suzanne Jo Geller, son, Bruce Geller, M.D., and infant daughter Sheila Jo Geller. He is survived by sons Mitchell Geller (KCMO), Jack Geller and daughter-in-law Allyson Geller (Camas, WA), daughter-in-law Kathryn Geller, (Overland Park, KS), grandchildren Casey, Corey and Crystal Geller (Camas, WA) and Jonathan, Jennifer, and Joshua Geller (Overland Park, KS). He and his brother Marshall were, for many years, the owners of Geller Furniture Rentals in KCMO. Harry was very proud of his service in WWII, serving with the 99th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Bulge. His newly deployed Division was holding a thinly held front line at the very start of the Battle. After a furious 1 1/2 hour German artillery bombardment starting at 5:30 a.m., the Germans planned to break through the 99th line by noon, but instead they were held up for the better part of 2 days. This disrupted the German timetable, and gave Gen. Dwight Eisenhower barely enough time to bring in the 110th Airborne Division into Bastogne. For their actions, they received the Presidential Unit Citation and the Belgian Fourrageres. Harry was also awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Harry spent some time in the hospital after developing frozen feet during the Bulge campaign. The family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice for their excellent care of Harry. The family suggests contributions be made in Harry's memory to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114. Cremation services were privately held by Louis Memorial Chapel 816-361- 5211. Online guest book is available at www.louismemoralchapel.com
