About Hazen David Halverson

HALVERSON, Hazen (Hal) David (June 27, 1922 - March 10, 2009) It is with flowing tears that we announce the passing of our beloved world traveler Hazen, on March 10, 2009 at 16:10. By his side, wife Nina and step daughter Linda were there to comfort him as he succumbed to injuries he acquired at his home in Flamingo, Costa Rica in December 2008. Hazen was born in Antelope, Saskatchewan and was a long-time resident of Nepean, Ontario. He more recently resided in Etobicoke and New Hamburg, Ontario. In a family history he once wrote, I wonder if we have not lived in the best of times. Hazen lived to make the best of times, as a professional engineer recognized by the International Who's Who of Professionals, a Squadron Leader in the Royal Canadian Air Force, a Veteran of World War Two, a recognized advocate, educator and volunteer in social service work and for improving the lives of seniors and patients with Parkinson's disease. Hazen was a man of exemplary character, strength, determination and dedication. A pal to have a beer and share a joke with, an elder to seek advice from, a generous, loving man to have shared time with. From the words of family and friends, it was a true privilege to have known Hazen. He leaves a loving wife, Nina Kunashko, daughter Jennie-Anne (Ralph) Daley, of Charlottetown, PEI, and grandchildren Christopher and Catherine, step sons Dr. Peter Kunashko (Patricia), Dr. David Kunashko and step daughter Linda Bagworth (Stephen) and grandchildren Tyler, Sarah, Alexander, Larissa and Shawn, Nieces and Nephews, Beverly Martin, Opal Goodwin, Lyman Reed, Helen Laity, David Halverson and Glen Halverson. Predeceased by his first wife Alice Halverson (1995), sister Alice, of Fort Macleod, Alberta (2007), and brother Victor of Maple Ridge, B.C. (2007). A celebration of Hazen's life will be held on Sunday March 15th, 2009 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. with a presentation at 1:00 p.m. at Stone Croft Estates Community Centre, 15 Stonecroft Way, New Hamburg Ontario N3A 4J1. On June 27th, 2009 a memorial service and burial will take place in Richibucto, New Brunswick. Details to follow. Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg is assisting with arrangements. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Parkinson's Foundation of Canada or the charity of choice. On-line condolences and donation information is available at www.markjutzifuneralhomes.ca or may be obtained by calling 519-662-1661. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 3/12/2009
