Heinrich von Bobenhausen comes from the Frankish noble family of the von Bobenhausen family . He was first Commander of Bad Mergentheim from 1547 to 1549, then Commander of Frankfurt am Main and until 1565 Commander of Regensburg . From 1557 he was commander of the Deutschordensballei Franken . In 1572 he rose to the position of Grand and German Master based in Mergentheim. 1572 was enfeoffed by Bobenhausen from the Emperor with Prussia .

In 1576 he was also appointed administrator of the Bishopric of Fulda by Emperor Maximilian II . During his time as Grand Master, relations with Emperor Maximilian II deteriorated massively. Under Emperor Rudolf II , he had to accept that from 1585 he was given a coadjutor , his later successor as Grand Master, Maximilian's son and Emperor's brother, Maximilian III. , put aside and he actually had to relinquish his power. After Maximilian took the oath in October 1585, Bobenhausen handed over the residence and the chamber houses in Mergentheim to Maximilian. In 1586, Maximilian granted permission to use the Prussian Grand Master's Cross, subject to superiority, the regalia and the title of Grand and German Master. In 1586 he also had to hand over the administration of the Imperial Abbey of Fulda to Maximilian. hand over.
