Father James was convicted of forgery in 1861 and transported to Western Australia, arriving on 31 December 1862. Helen, her mother and her siblings arrived in WA on 17 December 1864 on the Hastings.

The family presumably lived in York (father James met his family at Fremantle when they arrived and immediately escorted them back to York, where he was privately employed as a schoolmaster) until early 1867 when father James commenced as a teacher at Greenough and mother Susannah at a teaching position at Geraldton and later at Greenough.

Helen was married on the 8 February 1880 to Patrick Stone at St. Peter's Chapel, Bootenal, Greenough, WA by Rev. Fr. A. Lecaille. (Marriage Registration no. 4837/1880) They had the following children:

After their marriage, husband Pat Stone then established himself in business in the town of Geraldton. He became well known as one of the pioneer commercial men of the place. He was a prominent supporter of the lead and copper mining industry around Northampton. He also owned the Commonwealth Hotel with adjacent block of buildings of which his general store formed a part.

While still a young man, he was elected to a seat on the Greenough Roads Board (grandson Paul Fisher was Shire Engineer for the same municipality - later known as the Shire of Greenough - for 5 years from 1980), and later elected as a member for the Geraldton Municipal Council which he served for fourteen years and retiring upon his election as a member for the Greenough district in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, an office he occupied for six years. His platform was that of an Independent Liberal, and while in Parliament he played an active part in breaking up the large leased land holdings for closer settlement. He was also successful in his persistent agitation for the construction of a railway line to the Chapman district and later to the Murchison district.

A list of probates and administrations issued yesterday at the office at the Supreme Court included ... Laurance John Stone, late of Geraldton, to Helen Emily Stone, £416 13s 6d. [son Laurance had died 23 September 1917 in Belgium.]

DEATH OF MRS. P. STONE.

A large circle of friends will hear with regret of the death, which took place on Sunday, of Mrs. Helen Emily, wife of Mr. P. Stone, of Marine Terrace. Deceased, who was in her 66th year, had been in failing health for some time and about a week ago she entered Rosella Hospital, where she gradually grew weaker and died as stated. Deceased was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Roe, who came out from Kent, England (where Mr. Roe had been an Anglican clergy man) when Mrs. Stone was a child of five or six years of age. After residing in Fremantle and York, Mr. and Mrs. Roe came to the Greenough, and had charge of the schools at Central and North Greenough. Mr. Roe was a clever journalist, and for several years contributed articles to the 'Express', the 'Herald' Perth, and other papers and by his writings took a prominent part in the movement which led to the establishment of responsible government. Mrs. Stone, who completed her education at the Convent, Perth, was married to Mr. P. Stone over forty years ago. She was well-known and highly respected and her death will be greatly deplored. She leaves three sons (James, Eddie, and Frank) a fourth, Laurence being killed at the war, and three daughters (Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Brophy and Mrs. Fisher). The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at the R. C. Cemetery, and was attended by a large gathering of friends from all parts of the district. The pall bearers were Messrs. J. Mills, M.L.C., J. C. Willcock, M.L.A., T. R, de Lucey, W. Keeley, W. Bennett and M. Quain. The service was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Prendergast.

Helen is buried in plot 67 of the Old Geraldton Cemetery In Eastern Road with husband Patrick; Helen was buried on 19 February 1922 and Patrick buried on 23 December 1926.
