About Hendrik Liefers
he had to do his military service, belonging to the 1903 draft. He joined the army in the 8th Regiment Infantry on May 20th, 1903. On October 1st he was sent to the 1st Regiment. On March 31st, 1904, he obtained long furlough (source R. De Bruyn).
When his daughters Albertine (14.07.1909) and Luise (23.08.1911) were born Hendrik worked as a mineworker in Germany. At the beginning of WWI Hendrik was mobilized again and stationed in Amsterdam. The family moved during WWI to the Netherlands, where Hendrik continued to work as a mineworker at the "Staatsmijn Hendrik" at Brunssum, NL. This mine opened in 1915 and therefore it is assumed the family moved there around that time, but before 1917 when there is proof the family had settled in Brunssum (see travelslip military).
Following the death of his wife on 16 May 1928, Hendrik still lived in Brunssum at the Houserstraat 5.
