Who was Jane "Guy?"
One theory was that Jane Guy as widow of Nicholas Guy,a carpenter, born about 1588 in Upton Gray, Hantshire, died in Watertown MA. Jane then married Thomas Walford.
There is a baptism record for a Jane Guy daughter of Henry Guy from St Margaret Moses, Little Friday Street, London, England that matches closely to her estimate age.
Looking at Torry Vol 3 p 1583 under Walford Thomas she is Jane with no maiden name at all.
GDMNH 265, 712
I checked Robert Anderson's 2015 Directory and it lists GMB 1902-6 so I looked that up again and he claims her maiden name is unknown. Anderson also cites Devil of the Great Island (New York 2007). I haven't see this last work: https://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/7932159
I trolled all the old New Hampshire records again. I looked at the old NEGHR entries.
You know what? I can't even find a reliable source that confirms that she was born Guy, Married a Guy or anything of the sort. I'm starting to think the whole "Guy" idea is a legend and nothing more.
