Ekegren: Waldan International's watch line as marketed and sold in Europe. The name Ekegren comes from Henri Robert Ekegren (1823-1896) who was one of the most skilled watchmakers of the second half of the 19th century.

This rare timepiece comes in a solid gold double hinged back case which is engraved “H. R. Ekegren Copenhagen Made For J. E. Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia” on the inner cuvette. The high-grade case comes with Jurgensen-style lips, the case is plain polished. The superior grade 20 jewel nickel bridge movement features wolfs tooth winding gears, a micro-metric regulator and a sophisticated bi-metallic balance wheel with lever escapement. The movement is signed “H. R. Ekegren Copenhagen.” The Ekegren” signature also appears on the white porcelain dial which is marked with fancy black Arabic hour chapters, a black minute track and gold Louis XIV hands. $1,100.00
Henri-Robert Ekegren associated himself in 1891 with E. Koehn, he is a watch maker of high repute for his sophisticated quality of work. He had a patent for an oil for horology which he presented in 1874. A committee experimented with the new oil in 1888 at the Art Society of Geneva and ultimately determined it to be the best that has ever been produced until that day. He became a watch maker to the King of Denmark and received a gold metal at the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1867, in Vienna in 1873, in Philadelphia in 1876 and in Paris in 1878.
