Notes for Henry D ADKINS
Daniels p.59. Henry was a Civil War veteran on the Unionist side and enlisted at Georges Creek on 5th August 1862, serving for 25 months and was honorably discharged at Louisville, Kentucky on 4th September 1863. Like many others Henry was charged with desertion but returned to his unit in 1865. [55]
According to his military records Henry was 5ft 3in tall with brown eyes and dark hair. [55]
Daniels p.60. Henry applied for a pension on 4th May 1898. He said he had five living children at this time. According to census records he was the father of 12 children so we assume had only five children living at home at this time. Some apparently died young and we have not been able to trace them through marriages. [55]
