About Henry William Chandler
The company he traveled with was noted in local church financial records. The 1861 Manchester ship manifest shows Henry Chandler coming with Hannah Chandler, who was his mother.
His birth and death dates are confirmed by his death certificate.
Ira Eldredge Company (1861) Age at Departure: 22
Henry William Chandler was born in Kingsclere, Hampshire, England, the son of John and Hanna Prior Chandler. He was trained in his native land as a carpenter. He and his mother emigrated to Utah in 1861.
On July 24, 1862, he married Emma Hill in Salt Lake City. She was born November 14, 1834, in Waverly, Surrey, England, to William and Sarah Burningham Hill. She came with her family to Utah in 1861.
Henry and Emma came to Millville where they spent the remainder of their days. Henry farmed and worked at the carpenter trade. He made coffins in those early days and, with the help of Henry Chandler with Abel Garr, did nearly all of the carpenter work on the old frame church. Henry served as superintendent of the Sunday School for thirty years.
Emma was content to take care of her home and support him in his calling. She was devoted to her family and was never happier than when they were close around her. She died February 13, 1903.
After her death, Henry married Fannie Wall Whitney on September 1, 1903.
Henry and Emma were the parents of seven children: Henry William (Margaret Melissa Whitney), Percy George (Ada Henrietta Whitney), Ernaline Sarah (Mathew Clifford), Alice, George (Zelnora, Adell Whitney), Martha Ann (Henry Anderson) and Lilly May.
