Born at Frederickstown, PA. Son of William & Veronica (Markley) Frey. Married Anna Maria Buertsler – Jan.25, 1756 - children:
1. Anna Maria 1759
2. Johann Heinrich 1763

Converted by the preaching of Christian Henry Rauch, he united with the Moravians in 1744. Destined for the Indian mission, he learned the Maqua language from Brother Pyraeus. He accompanied David Zeisberger on his journey to Onondaga. Served the church in various capacities. Warden of the Nazareth congregation. Came to Lititz sometime later (was in Lititz in 1763, since his son, Johann Heinrich was born in Lititz) where he was a miller and later a carpenter. When the mill was destroyed by fire in 1775, he, as master-carpenter, supervised the building of the new (present) mill.
