'Extract from "The Daily Gleaner" dated Thursday 09th March 1916 announcing the marriage of my Grandparents, Rev.Henry Herbert Watt Simpson and Ada Emily Euphemia Witter Ford. Their Wedding day was 06th March 1916. Illegible print indicated by parentheses. They then sailed from Jamaica on Monday 13th March 1916 to Nigeria via Liverpool, U.K. My Grandfather served the C.S.M., for the Church of England from March 1913 - August 1922 as a missionary.

They sailed from Nigeria to Liverpool, U.K, arriving Liverpool on 06th August 1922 on the Motor Vessel "ABA" on their return journey to Jamaica.

Marriage of Miss. A. Ford To Mr. H. H. Simpson At St. George’s

VERY POPULAR COUPLE

St. Georges Church, Kingston was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Monday afternoon when Miss. Ada Emily Ford of Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth was given away to Mr. H. H. Simpson, F.V.C.M. (Lon.) C.M.S Missionary to Nigeria, who has been completing his studies for Holy Orders at the Church Theological College since November last.

In the unavoidable absence of the bride’s father , the bride was given away by the Rev. Mr. Thomas, of Ebenezer Chapel, Kingston, while the bride’s younger sister, Miss. Maud Ford, acted as chief bride’s maid. The bride was a picture of simplicity and taste. More than a hundred guest witnessed the ceremony, Chief among them were: Rev. Canon Wortley, Rev. Mr. Thomas (of Ebenezer, Coke Circuit), Revs. G.S. Verity, W. Bassington, H.G. Lovell, W.T. Mumford: Messrs. Gibson, Freckleton, Harrison, Armstrong, Bailey, Bond, Parr and Reader (students of the Church Theological College):

Mr. J.J. Mills (senior tutor of Mico College), Mr. and Mrs. E.H.E. Maclaverty, sister’s Madeleine and Emily and Miss Fanny Burke of the Deaconess Home, Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Hussey, Mr. and Mrs. W. Campbell, Mrs. I. Watson, the father and mother of the bridegroom, Mr. Josh Simpson, Mrs. Brown of Pedro Farms, Misses Dunwell, Barnes, Stern, Magee, Messrs Nembhard, Davies, Mr. Douglas the bestman – a fellow missionary of the bridegroom and who is to be married on Tuesday. The finishing touch was given to the company by about 120 young ladies of the Deaconess Home High and Lower Schools. At the close of the ceremony at the church the party and guests left for York House where the reception was held. At the reception Canon Wortley and Mr. E.H.E Maclaverty presented a formal address and a presentation of the missionary Committee of Halfway Tree Church to the bride and bridegroom to which the bridegroom replied.

The Rev. Mr. Thomas then proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom and this was healthly drank with aerated water. Other healths were proposed and drank and tribute was paid to the bride and bridegroom from every side. The wedding presents were many and varied and included among other things, writing cases, fountain pens, China, books, dressing cases and fancy work.

Miss Ford the bride late of Bethlehem Training College distinguished herself as a most capable (……) and a (…) (……) character and while we have no doubt (…) (….) (…..) for her capabilities and personality in her new higher calling and (……) as missionary and co-partner to her (…..) (………) husband.

The party sails on the S.S Catherine on Monday (…..) for England on their way to Nigeria.
