Henry Huddleston

Henry Huddleston, who came to Ohio from Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia), met and married Mary Slack, the daughter of James Slack and mentioned in his will of 1822 ("Hampshire County Early Records," by Sage - pp. 133). Since their youngest was born in Hampshire County in 1822 and Henry died in 1823 in Union Township, the family had to migrate to Union Township, Licking County, between these dates. The tombstone of Henry has not been located , but it is presumed he was buried either at Licking Cemetery or the now extinct Park Cemetery off Township Road No. 137. The widow then married Joseph Montonya (Mantonya), and in 1834 the family moved to Milford Township near Lock. These two are buried in Hall Cemetery (north half). This information was received from James V. Clark of Granville, Ohio. He is a descendant of Elizabeth and Samuel Vance. The Huddlestons came from Millom Castle in Cumberland, England. The earliest known ancestor was Nigel, a monk, about 1100AD.
