Henry Leask of Boardhouse,Hurkisgarth and Swartland, is the son of James Leask, Wright in Kirkwall, and his wife Graham Leask. [Orkney Family History Society: Death Cert: 1892-013-00-0020] He was born on 16 January 1809 and his baptism was registered in February 1809, at Kirkwall in Orkney, Scotland. [National Records of Scotland, Kirkwall Baptisms, reference OPR.21/3]

Death

Henry Leask died at Boardhouse in Birsay, on 15 July 1892. He was aged 83 and he had been suffering from an obstruction of the bowels for almost three weeks. His son Henry Leask reported his father's death to the local registrar on 16 July 1892. [Orkney Family History Society: Death Cert: 1892-013-00-0020]

Marriage

Henry Leask married Eliza Moodie Dunbar.They were contracted to marry on 14 May 1835 and they were married the Reverend Mr. Paterson on 25 May 1835, at Edinburgh in Midlothian, Scotland. The marriage record at Kirkwall in Orkney reads as follows: "1835 . . . . . Mr. Henry Leask of this parish, and Miss Eliza Moodie of Edinburgh, were matrimonially contracted on 14th and married at Edinburgh on 25th by the Revd, Mr. Paterson, Witnesses Mr. Robert Heddle, Esquire of Melsetter and Mrs. Heddle". Henry Leask, tenant of Boardhouse, gets convey., Mar. 25, 1854, by the Commissioners of Woods and Forests, - to portions of the lands of HURKISGARTH containing 56 Acres and 683 thousands of an Acre, - 16 Acres and 592 thousands of an Acre, and 15 Acres and 628 thousands of an Acre, of the lands of Aithstown, 5 Acres of the Commonty of Sandwick on the north side, and 40 acres of the said Commonty on the south side of the road from Yescanaby to Stromness with the houses and buildings thereon (under exception), Par. Serv. by Sheriff-Substitute of Caithness, Orkney and Shetland, of Henry Leask, No. 4 Grove Crescent Road, Stratford, London, as heir to his father Henry Leask, sometime Farmer in Boardhouse, Parish of Birsay, Orkney, - in the lands of SWARTLAND in SKAEBRAE, extending to 88 Acres and 56 thousands of an Acre, as marked Nos. 1 and 2 on plan and portion (45 Acres and 907 decimal parts of an Acre) of the Commonty of Sandwick allotted to the said lands in division thereof, bounded on the north by the junction of the Kirkwall and Stromness Roads, on the east by the said lands of Swartland, and on the east by the Road from Stromness to Birsay, with houses etc. on the said lands and others, in Parish of Sandwick and Mainland of Orkney.
