About Henry Lysholm McKay
Henry Lysholm McKay, 79, died Jan. 17, 2002. A resident of The Forest at Duke Retirement Community in Durham, N.C., “Hank” spent the last 41 summers on Contention Cove in Surry. He was born June 28, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wis., to John and Ragni (Lysholm) McKay.
Hank graduated from Abington, Pa. High School in 1941 and Lehigh University in 1951. He lived most of his adult life in the Philadelphia area.
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hank enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served mainly in the Pacific Theater for six years. He was recalled during the Korean War and served as an instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Air Station. Prior to his retirement in 1984, he served in a variety of executive positions in the financial community for 33 years. Hank will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. A man of great integrity and honesty, he was much loved and will be terribly missed.
Hank is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janet Dackerman McKay of Durham; four children, Joan Callahan and her husband, Charles of Webster, N.Y., Pamela Kelly and her husband, James of Vail, Colo., David J. McKay and his wife, Patricia of Pennington, N.J., James and his wife, Nadia of Milton, Mass.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Maren Rosborough of Blue Hill.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Village Cemetery, Surry. If friends wish, they may make donations in Hank’s memory to Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Ave., Ellsworth. Arrangements by Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
