About Henry Mallinder
Henry Mallinder had enlisted in the army as a 10-year-old drummer boy in the Grenadier Guards in about 1853. He then served in London and Dublin and by 1881 had been promoted to drum major with a substantive rank of sergeant. He was discharged from the army on completion of his service on 14 March 1882 after 29½ years. He then became bandmaster at the Redhill Farm School, where he remained until his death in 1907
