About Henry W. Maloy, Sr.
Henry Maloy changed his name upon immigration to the USA, adopting "Maloy" as his surname. He signed his name as "Maleu" on his marriage license and as the family name on his oldest son's baptism certificate. There is no definite proof that the surname was "Maleu" in Germany, but it may be possible, as the surname "Maleu" in German is pronounced the same as "Maloy" in English. Henry Maloy, Sr. stated that at one time, he had lived near the Oder River in Poland, when it was still a part of Germany, before the boundry changed. He said he had lived near Stettin, which has since been renamed as Sczeczin, Poland. It was said the name of the town he lived nearest to had been called Lako, Poland. There are and have been no towns called Lako, Poland. We have been advised that it could have been Lekowo, Poland, which would be pronounced same as Lako. There is some question as to Henry Maloy, Sr.'s birthplace. There is a family generated document which states that he was born in Berlin, Germany. Otherwise, some have stated he was born in Lekowo, Poland or in an area near to there. When Henry was young, he was a palace guard, and had a job of driving a general around with a team of horses. Henry worked in a Feed Mill in Nashua, Iowa, and was known to be very strong. He farmed most of his life.
