He graduated in 1868 from the Kingston Military School and was a member of the 14th Regiment Volunteer Militia, which was stationed at Prescott Junction, on the St. Lawrence River during the trouble of the Fenian raid in 1865. He was also 1st Lieutenant of the British Naval and Military Veterans of Boston. He was buried with military honors at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester, Massaschusetts.
