About Henry Harrison Wilson
Henry Harrison Wilson was killed in the Scofield Mine disaster May 1, 1900 along with (officially) 199 others. The death toll may have been as high as 246. In terms of the number killed, this was the worst mine disaster in the history of the United States at that time.
On Henry's tombstone is the following inscription:
"Farewell my wife and children all
from you a father Christ doth call."
The information on Henry's brothers was derived from an 1870 census of the Uniontown, PA (Fayette County) Soldiers Orphans Home. Research on such homes indicates they were provided for the orphans of Civil War veterans, so their father may have fought for the Union in the Civil War and was either killed in action or died later, before the boys were old enough to be on their own. I assume their mother had died also or was unable to care for them after her husband's death.
