Van Buren --- Herbert J. Cyr, 82, died peacefully Wednesday, December 17, 2014, with his family at his side. He was born November 2, 1932 in Hamlin, a son of the late Fred and Jeannette (Masse) Cyr.

He served in Germany with the US Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post #49. Herbert was also a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Assembly. He worked on his farm for several years but enjoyed working with Parent Farm for many years. He also worked as a plumber with Industrial Heating & Plumbing for over 20 years, and, a “jack of all trades,” spent a lot of time with many projects. He enjoyed listening to French music and loved to dance, though sometimes unable to coax his wife to dance with him.

He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline (Martin) Cyr of Van Buren; three sons, Gary Cyr and his wife Kim of Hampton, VA, Ken Cyr and his wife Diane of Hamlin, Dean Cyr and his wife Brenda of Lewiston; two daughters, Diane Farrell and her husband Brian of Auburn and Denise Asselin of Lewiston; one brother, Russell Cyr and his wife Sylvia of Millinocket; four sisters: Carlene Herbert of Caribou, Rita Cyr of Manchester, CT, Verna Gagnon and her husband Don, and Lillian Ouellette and her husband Herman, both of Van Buren; seven grandchildren, Trisha, Kerry, Ashley, Derek, Chantelle, Chad & Antony; five great grandchildren, Kyle, Brandon, Hunter, Avery & Aurora; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Herby is predeceased by: two siblings, Maynard Cyr and Noella Ouellette; and a son-in-law, Lennie Asselin.
