Source: Zabriskie, George Olin, "The Jan Cornelisen Van Hoorn/Van Horne Family," The American Genealogist, Vol. 46, No. 2 (April 1970), pp. 110-111:

Hillegond Van Horne, daughter of Cornelis Jansen Van Hoorn . . . by his wife Anne Marie Jans, was born in New York and baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church, there, 10 Oct. 1660, witnesses: Adam Ongelba and Hillegond Joris (the child's grandmother and uncle by marriage). In 1686 Hillegond and her first husband were living with or next to her parents - the entry reads Hillegont Cornelis, wife of Olfert Kreefberry (-berg in another transcription). In the East Ward, New York City Census taken about 1703, her second husband is shown as Capt. Shelley, with one male and two female adults and three negroes. The will of Hellegonda Shelley of the City of New York, widow, was dated 28 May 1716, proved 27 Sept. 1718 in Bergen County, New Jersey, and on 13 Jan. 1719 in New York (NJW 1:417; NYW 2:184). She leaves real and personal estate wherever found to her executors (brothers Gerrit Van Horne and Enoch Vreeland) "upon trust to pay the same to my sister, Mary Vreeland, during her life and after her death to such child and children as she may leave, but if she leave no children, then to my brothers and sisters, that is to say, John Van Horne, Gerrit Van Horne, Abraham Van Horne, Effie Theobold, Vrientie Sanford and Janeke Lane. Apparently, Hillegond had no children of her own.

By license dated 10 Dec. 1684, "Helekin Van Horrow" married Oliver Cranesburgh, of whom nothing more is known. On 25 Nov. (banns 10 Nov.) 1689, in the Dutch Reformed Church, Hillegond Van Hooren, widow of Olivier Crainsborough, married Gilles Schelley, young man born in London, both living in New York. Much has been written about Giles Shelley, captain of a privateer, later a merchant and land owner in New York. For example, see John G. Hunt's account (TAG, supra, 43:163 f.). Shelley's will was dated 22 Sept. 1702, codicil 19 Feb. 1710, proved 6 March 1710/11 (NYW 2:60-62). In it he mentioned but did not name his wife to whom he gave £20 "and no more" and £15 per annum for life, plus an immediate £60 in money or household goods in the codicil. In a letter dated at Cape May, 27 May 1699, Shelley said: "If you think fitt you may acquaint my Wife of my Arrivall, for I have not writt to her" (NJA 2:289 f.). Hunt cites a 1705 account which said that Shelley was "keeping the wife of Charles Peter." In his will Shelley left his New York property in trust for the use of Mary Peters, wife of Charles Peters, and gave her £50 outright and £i50 a year for ten years, plus three Indian slaves, "and all these bequests are to be free from the control of her husband," but these provisions were annulled in the codicil, as she was then dead. Shelley also gave £50 to John Tudor Jr., nephew of his wife.
