Hiram Balus Chastain

Although his footstone says Hiram Balus, he has been known in the family as Henry Bailus. On all the censuses he can be located on, he is referred to as Baylis. His confederate records list him as only H. B.

The following is a comment by Sara Mason: His correct name is Hiram Bailis Chastain. I am the great grandaughter of Hiram and the information I provide is taken from family Bible and his tombstone in Shiloh Cemetery.
