From [http://www.genealogybuff.com/wa/wa-king-obits4.htm] Hjormund Kummen, 84, of Issaquah died on July 28 [2000] at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. A memorial service for Mr. Kummen will be at 2 p.m., Aug. 3, 2000, at the Eastridge Christian Assembly, 5025 Issaquah-Pine Lake Rd. S.E. He was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Nordberg, Gudbransdal, Norway, the son of Gregor and Ragna Kummen. He was raised and attended school in Norway. In 1938, he graduated from the Swedish Technical School with a degree in mechanical engineering. Following college he joined the Royal Norwegian Air Force as a Sergeant Mechanic. During the German occupation of Norway, Mr. Kummen was captured twice and escaped each time; his second escape lead him through Russia to Canada. In Canada he was stationed in Toronto where Lt. Kummen trained as a pilot. While there, he also met his future bride, Charlotte Robinson. On March 11, 1944, they were married in Toronto. In 1946, they returned to Norway. Two years later, they returned to Canada, where he took a position with the Canadian Department of Defense. In 1959, the family moved to Issaquah, where they settled on Cougar Mountain. Mr. Kummen worked for Pacific Car and Foundry, retiring in 1982 as a design engineer. In his leisure time he enjoyed travel, especially to Norway, reading, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of Issaquah; son Jon Kummen of Fall City; daughters Rondi Martin of Pasadena, Calif., and Nancy Kummen of Issaquah; sisters Ronaug and Gudrun of Norway; and one grandson, Christopher Kummen.
