Holger was born in 1854 as the eldest of 9 children. He was educated at military school in Kristiansand, Norway in 1878-79. He was a well-grown and fit man who was born to a military career. He married Johanne in 1886 and they lived in Stavanger. They had 11 children (1 died as a baby). In addition to his military position, Holger worked as a police- and health officer in Stavanger. Holger retired from service in 1914 and died in 1925.
