Homer Darby
SUMMIT CITY – Homer J. Darby, 69, a resident of Summit City, Shasta county and a former Yreka resident, died of a heart attack early yesterday morning. He and his wife, Evalyn had just returned from the coast and were at the Cove Mobile Villa when he became ill and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and was prounced dead. An autopsy under the direction of the office of Sheriff-Coroner showed his death to be from a heart condition.
Darby had retired in 1962 from the Southern Pacific Company where he had worked 20 years as an engineer. After his retirement he managed the Red Barn Trailor Village for several years and the couple had lived at Summit City since 1970. They first came to Yreka in 1936.
He was born in Fresno County near Selma on April 24, 1906, and lived there until his junior year in high school when his family moved to Orland. There he met Evalyn Reager of Orland and the couple married on Feb. 11, 1928.
In addition to his widow he leaves a brother, Ralph Darby of Modesto.
Services will be held in Orland in the F. D. Sweet Funeral Home 11:00 a.m. Friday.
