About Hon. John Chester
Graduate of Harvard, 1722. Died suddenly in the hayfield. The bell in the church tower at Weathersfield, imported from England, and his gift, bears in raised letters this inscription - "John Chester, 1761."
Served as judge of the County Court in the General Assembly. Was colonel of the Sixth Regiment. Nine children.
Hon. John Chester was a Colonel in the army of the Revolution, and distinguished himself by his bravery at the battle of Bunker Hill. He sustained several important civil offices, the duties of which he performed with great fidelity. In all the private relations of life, he was much esteemed and beloved for his amiableness, sincerity, hospitality and benevolence. He was a sincere and pious Christian.
