About Hon. Maj. William S. Driver
William Impey Stanford Driver was in the Cape C.S. until 1895,then in the Rhodesian C.S. until 1901. Then he was Native Commissioner in the Transvaal until 1927. He then farmed in the Waterberg area, taking a prominent part in public affairs. He served in the Matabele Rebellion as a Lieut. and in the Transvaal Rebellion as a Captain. He served in the First World War in East Africa and retired as Hon. Major (Mil. Political). He died at Warmbaths 1.9.1948. He married Mary Mitford, daughter of John Ogilvie Norton, M.P. for Albany, and had four sons and two daughters.
