Horace Ellsworth was the son of Chauncey Ellsworth and Rhoda Ellsworth.

Horace married Amanda Ellsworth on 31 August 1825 in Bristol. The officiant was Henry Soper. Horace and Amanda had two children Permelia and Alonzo H, both born in Vermont.

Horace and Amanda moved to North Royalton, Cuyahoga County by 1839 when Horace was listed on the Cuyahoga County Tax Rolls.

In 1850 Horace, Amanda and son Alonzo were in North Royalton where Horace was a farmer. Daughter Permelia was now married to Luther Edgerton. Permelia, Luther and 2 year old daughter Wealthy were part of the household. Luther was a carpenter.

Amanda died in 1852 and in 1860 Horace was living with daughter Permelia and her family in North Royalton.

The Edgerton Family was living in Hinkley, Medina County in 1870 and Horace was still living with them.

Horace was listed in 1875 in Cleveland, Ohio living on Gaylord in the 18th Ward. In 1876 his residence was on Hamilton Avenue, also in the 18th Ward. Son Alonzo was also a Cleveland Resident.

Horace's death was incorrectly transcribed listing him as Hiram Ellsworth. Several occurrences of his name in the probate records look like Hiram which may explain the error. A search for Hiram Ellsworth living in Cleveland yielded no results. The death record lists Hiram Ellsworth, 78 of the 18th Ward death on 20 February 1877, body removed from Cleveland for burial (Horace was living in the 18th ward). Probate for Horace's estate was not settled until 14 June 1886. The executor was his son-in-law, Luther Edgerton. Two children were listed., Alonzo Ellsworth and Parmelia Edgerton. The documents stated that Horace died in February 1878 in Clevland, Ohio.
