Born in 1827 and died in 1870, Horatio Simon Samuel was married to Henrietta, the daughter of Horatio Montefiore of London (died in 867 - see The Jews Who's Who - Israelite Finance, 1920 under Samuel, Harry), a brother of Sir Moses Montefiore (See Burke's Landed Gentry, under Montefiore).

Thus, Sir Harry Samuel was to become a partner in the banking firm established by his two uncles, Sir Moses and Abraham Montefiore.

Horation married his first cousin Sarah, the daughter of Daniel Mocatta.

Among their other Mocatta cousins was Frederick David Mocatta mentioned in this chapter.
