About Hugh Daniel Gardner

Hugh Daniel Gardner, 73, of Harding Street, Milford, formerly of Lenox, died Friday morning at the Geriatric Authority in Milford.

Born in Cambridge on Jan. 27, 1931, son of John E. and Mary E. McFarland Gardner, he was a 1949 graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School.

He retired to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 1999.

An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he served with the 3620th maintenance and supply squadron from 1952 to 1956, then in the Air Force Reserve until 1960.

Mr. Gardner was the owner of K's Coats in Pittsfield, retiring in 1999. Previously, he had worked in retail sales as manager of the home furnishing department at the Harvard Coop, as a national sales representative for Syracuse China in Syracuse, N.Y., and as a sales representative for Royal Doulton of London.

While in Lenox, he was a communicant of St. Ann's Church.

He also was a volunteer at the Tanglewood gift shop for many years.

His companion of more than 30 years, Joseph T. Duffy, died Jan. 7, 2000.

He leaves two brothers, Robert E. Gardner of Milford and Bernard J. Gardner of Arlington.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Hugh Daniel Gardner, who died Friday, May 17, 2004, will be Tuesday, May 11, at 11 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:30 at St. Ann's Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 10 to 11 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sister Mary Gardner Scholarship Fund at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester, in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.

Mr. Gardner also leaves two nieces, Ellen Lavoie of Salem and Margaret M. Chiurri of Westwood, and several other nieces and nephews.
