Farmer, Section 26 Plum Hollow. His father was a soldier in the War of 1812. While still a small child, he moved with his father to Athens Co. Ohio and became one of the pioneers of that county. He was denied the advantages of a common school education since none existed in the region where he lived. In 1824, his parents moved to Meigs Co., Ohio. In 1838, he married Mary Bolton who died Jan 6, 1852 by whom he became the father of eight children. One son, Wesley, was killed at the Battle of Corinth. On August 27, 1864, he married Mrs. Hannah Shober whose maiden name was Fisher. She married her first husband, George Shober on Dec 7, 1847 and came to Fremont County in 1853. She had by her first husband, seven children. She had six children with Hugh Irwin, Jr. including Rebecca, Robert A., Ettie A. and Oran W.
Hugh Irwin, Jr. is William de Irwyn, 1st of Drum's 15th great grandson.
