Actor. Born Hugh Hipple in Philadelphia, he began his stage career in the 1930s at the Pasadena Theatre in California and made his big screen debut in "Brilliant Marriage" (1936). He went on to appear in over 60 films and television shows. Some of his most memorable film credits include "Twelve O'Clock High" (1949), "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951), "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers" (1956), "Elmer Gantry" (1960) and "Birdman of Alcatraz" (1962). For television, he was a regular on "Rawhide", "The Twilight Zone", "Perry Mason", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "Another World". He died at age 71 in New York City. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
